I’m pretty sure the heavens touched down on Benedikt and Kristina’s black and sage wedding at Point Lookout Vineyards. There was a moment during the toasts when Taylor, the maid of honor, paused. The jokes and laughter subsided and she had to take a moment to breathe. She turned from speaking out to all of the guests to look and talk directly to Kristina and Ben. A moment that caught my attention as well as everyone else. From funny stories from college, reminiscing on silly times and the times their friendship stood strong, her speech turned to sincere gratitude and heartfelt admiration. Tears started welling up. The love and connection college friendships can have on a soul are life altering and there is no greater bond than teammates. Best friends. Soul sisters. Taylor said it best when she addressed Benedikt “The woman you are marrying is more precious than jewels and you have gained everything in having her in your life.” I’m not crying, you’re crying.
There’s always at least one particular moment at every wedding that I remember so vividly but this wedding was full of special emotions. You see this wedding was a college reunion for me just as much as it was for Kristina and Ben’s friends. Kristina and Benedikt met in college at Gardner-Webb University, which is also where I met Ben. Kristina coming from Florida to be a swimmer and Ben all the way from Germany. Isn’t it crazy how two people can be from two different countries, worlds apart and they found each other at a small private college in a one stoplight town in North Carolina? How can you not believe in fate and a high power who orchestrates and has a specific plan for each of us?
The day started out on such a high. Earlier that week I put an offer on my first house purchase. I had waited all week to hear back if they accepted my offer or not. That morning I got the call. They accepted my offer (happy tears!!) and from that moment on my emotions were on such a high that there was nothing going to ruin the day. The wedding started and everything was absolutely beautiful. From the decorations, the weather, the venue, to the people and sweet reunions. There was a small sprinkle of rain during the ceremony (I had 10 umbrellas prepared) but thankfully we didn’t need them! It was just magical.
There was a point during the bride and groom portrait time when we all joked about a certain pose. How it could be a staple picture to hang over their bed so he can look at it every day. Ben said “Why would I need a photo when I have the real thing right beside me?” If that doesn’t speak volumes for the kind of gentleman Ben is and how much love he has for his WIFE then I don’t know what does?
Kristina and Ben, I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to be apart of the most special and joyous time in your lives. Y’all are true gems. Your wedding was absolutely amazing but it’s nothing compared to what God has in store for you two and your future. This is just the beginning my friends.
